A compostable package is the one that can be decomposed in a natural composting process, transforming into organic matter, without leaving any toxic residues or contaminants. It is the sustainable option comparing it to normal plastic packages that take up to 100 years to degrade. On the other hand a compostable package, depending on the conditions of the compost and the material used, can take up to 16 weeks, in comparison with plastic packages that take up to hundreds of years to decompose.
5. What are the benefits of using compostable packages and how are they recycled?
Compostable packages help reduce the amount of plastic residues that end up contaminating our environment. By being biodegradable, they contribute to the conservation of the floor and allow the production of compost of high quality for its use in agriculture.
